The Assam University’s first campus was started functioning at Diphu from 18th July, 2007 with 6 (Six) academic departments including two science departments viz. Physics and Life Science; three Arts departments namely English, Political Science and History along with Department of Commerce and to facilitate teaching and learning of the faculties and students of the campus need for a library was felt. Accordingly a Library was initiated from the month of December, 2007. Presently there are two permanent staffs namely Sri Chandrajit Chouhan Library Assistant and Ms Popy Dimasa Library Attendant are working in the Library since January, 2008. However one post of Assistant Librarian is yet to be filled-up for which process is under progress. To facilitate proper functioning of the Library one senior faculty of the campus is given the responsibility as Library In Charge. Dr. Ajit K Tamuli, Associate Professor and Head of the department of Life Science is been entrusted the assignment since 25th March, 2012. Presently the campus has eight departments and the library is equip with 10,029 nos. of books. Department wise distribution of the books are as follows: Anthropology: 250, Assamese:2683, Commerce: 804, English: 1968, History: 690, Life Science: 1180, Physics: 761, Political Science: 1251 and 442 nos. of General Books. Efforts are under process for further procurement against the existing departments and for the lone centre- Tribal study centre.
Altogether 15 numbers of Indian Journals are being subscribed by the Library covering all departments. Presently the Library (s) function from two locations, one in the temporary location at Hindi Teachers Training Centre with five departments wherein the working hours is from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm and another at permanent campus, Eight kilo, Lumding Road, from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm. The basic facilities offered by the Libraries are Reading facility, open access system, Photo copying etc. further strengthening of the library is under process.
